An Interesting effect

If you want to achieve an interesting ‘distressed’ cool linty look on your dark coloured clothes? Here’s how: Bury a homemade box board birthday hat complete with pipe cleaners and scotch tape,  in amongst your laundry. Be in a bit of a hurry and stuff all the laundry from the basket into the machine. It helps if you’ve done laundry recently so it’s basically one load. Then set the machine to do a prewash, warm main wash and extra rinse, just because. This way the box will have a chance to completely dissolve, dispersing little beige cardboard fragments throughout the load, most noticeable on anything black, or navy blue knit. Not to worry even running it through another wash cycle, you won’t lose the effect.

Yes this was part of my morning. Not to mention a sick child at home, and  It didn’t;t get any better either  when the milk I had to run out for slipped out of my hand on it’s way into the fridge and cracked open, splattering over the entire kitchen including chair and table legs, base boards and creating a huge puddle . I had to take a picture.

“Don’t cry over spilt milk,” I said to my son, who had witnessed the whole thing” I haven’t mentioned , and he hasn’t discovered, it was his hat creation in the wash yet . “It’s a saying. You know why?….”

“No??”

“Because it’s already spilt! “

How often do we allow things to get to us, and to lose it, when there is absolutely nothing we can do about it?

Taking a deep breath, I quickly make a clean up plan, sop it up with a dish towel, starting at the outermost splatters, then work your way in to the puddle.  Rinse and ring out towel and repeat. This actually worked pretty good.

I notice sometimes we also spend a lot of energy working at avoiding these mishaps. I know next time I will be more careful if the container is wet!  Also if it’s a child and there we are cleaning up for the umpteenth time that day, or so it seems.  Okay honey, grab the dish towel, that’s right, it’s a big spill ! Oh I am so glad it isn’t juice, so sticky.. Oh no and it’s juice, we’ll have to wash it really good now …. Just let mommy stick her head under the kitchen sink cold water spout for a few seconds….

You can ask yourself:

What would I rather be doing?

Pick something and when the mess is cleaned up.. and whatever you are currently in the middle of is either complete  or the current stage is.- do it! And be present!

For me it is writing this out! But last night it was painting a piece of canvas green.

I am at a point where as long as I get enough, even just enough sleep, I can notice when the thoughts are getting in the way-  it usually goes like this- It’s already .. (insert time) ! I still have to to….. (fill in blank)… and now this ..?!?

Stop- But do I have to? Do you have to?

I am going to give us permission to stop and maybe it’s just hug a pillow, maybe it’s scrounge up a scrap of paper or pull out a notebook or pour a cup of tea- right now! Forget everything else because    guess what? If you don’t there will be no time let alone energy left for you and your hearts desire- so use it as a fuel station!

I hear people often say about children, if you could only bottle their energy ! Well guess what -You can!!!  It’s actually inside you. It’s been there all along. All you have to do is listen to that little person inside and what THEY would like to do right now- and guess what it fills your energy tank. Your little inner child will fuel you!

It’s amazing, it’s super fantastic !!!

As the green canvas dried I quickly made my way to bed, I noticed it was slightly later than usual, but I actually slept like a baby!

Okay gotta go ice that cake! Thanks for reading!

Bye for now:)
